21 Ways for People in Recovery to Stay Spiritually Healthy Amidst COVID-19
March 24, 2020
This is a wild season. For many people in the recovery world, it can be scary, because many of the rhythms that you have implemented into your life in recovery have been changed or eliminated. Because of this, I put together a list of 21 things you can do in this season to remain spiritually healthy. I hope you enjoy! Also - if you have any other recommendations, put them in the comments.
1 - Pray and listen to God.
2 - Get in the Word of God. Here is a great place to find some great reading plans.
3 - Listen to The Real Answer to Addiction Podcast.
4 - Call a godly friend.
5 - Attend an online meeting.
6 - Go on a walk/run.
7 - Watch this sermon series, called Recovering Redemption (I personally think this is the best recovery content available).
8 - Text some encouragement to a friend.
9 - Write a gratitude list.
10 - Watch "Harriet" the movie. So many correlations with our freedom journeys.
11 - Record your story on video and share it on social media.
12 - Do a devotional on YouVersion. Here is one my team wrote.
13 - Turn on some worship music. Dance and sing if you want!
14 - Do an at-home workout. Pushups, sit-ups, squats, etc.
15 - Read a good book. Here is one I recently read that was awesome, called, Rhythms of Renewal.
16 - Listen to a sermon/podcast. I have been listening to a series at Jon Tyson's church called Altars.
17 - Call your mentor/sponsor.
18 - Learn something new. I've started doing some woodworking recently and it's been awesome!
19 - Clean your spiritual house. What better time for an inventory?
20 - Clean your physical house. LOL. What better time to clean up your actual house (and car)?
21 - Rest in the Gospel. In times when works are limited, we must remember that our freedom isn't found in our effort, but rather in the finished work of Christ!
